Welcome to Alamo
A famous and affluent enclave in Contra Costa County
Alamo is one of the most excellent places to live in California, as it’s a small, unincorporated community where residents enjoy a rural lifestyle. Alamo’s beautiful climate, rich land, and especially its sense of opportunity date back to the days of the California gold rush. Most people in Alamo own their homes, and the town’s quiet atmosphere is enhanced by the trees lining its streets, beautiful nature trails, and trails for horseback riding and mountain biking.
In terms of amenities, Alamo has several restaurants, cafes, and parks — some of the most friendly living spaces in the country designed by some of the best local architects. Buyers will likely find large, custom-built homes on spacious lots, some with pools. Floor plans of Alamo luxury houses typically range from 4,000 to 6,000 square feet. Alamo’s location in the East Bay makes it a convenient launching point and a great place to live.

Local Lifestyle
Alamo has so much to offer — families can discover family-friendly services in a laid-back community where parents and children easily make social connections. The town’s excellent public education system and a significant population of college-educated individuals create an atmosphere that values and supports academics. Alamo restaurants serve many cuisines, and area winemakers supply some of their drinks menus. With a location equally suited for hybrid work and commuting, Alamo real estate prices are among the highest in California.
Dining, Entertainment, and Shopping
Alamo offers a wide selection of restaurants for any taste. You can start by visiting Xenia Bistro, which serves brunch and pancakes on Saturdays and Sundays. In addition, the restaurant is open for lunch, dinner, and drink, so you can choose from a menu of appetizers like fried mozzarella sticks, calamari, Kobe beef sliders, potato skins, and crab cakes. High Tech Burrito is another notable place (you've hit the jackpot if you want quality, healthy, affordable Mexican food).
The Peasant’s Courtyard by acclaimed local chef Rodney Worth serves delicious American and European-style fare. Mimosas or beer are in order in the cozy restaurant, which many residents enjoy for brunch. Another quality breakfast spot is Lever Coffee in Alamo Square, which offers fresh pastries and coffee brewed with a lever press.
Shoppers can make the short drive to Broadway Plaza in nearby Walnut Creek. This open-air mall is home to several luxury shops and restaurants — there are 80 specialty shops in this upscale shopping center.
Things To Do
Each year, the Alamo Music & Wine Festival aggregates excellent California wineries in a convivial atmosphere punctuated by live music (funds support local high school music programs). Later in the year, the Alamo Tree Lighting introduces the holiday season; families with kids visit Santa and take photos of this fabulously festive ceremony.
If it’s fresh food and community you’re seeking, check out the Alamo Certified Farmers’ Market on Sundays. Active families, couples, and individuals can enjoy every modern club luxury at Roundhill Country Club while also immersing themselves in an environment that captures the traditions and elegance of life in the Alamo. In addition to tennis courts and pools, the members-only club has an 18-hole golf course that occasionally hosts PGA and LPGA Tour events.
